Can implants be placed in infected sites

Writer: Manager ofolayan11@email.mmc.eduManager ofolayan11@email.mmc.edu

Research in Dental implantology has shown there is a high success and survival rate of implants placed immediately after extraction of an infected tooth.

This high survival rate demonstrates that implants can be successfully osseo-integrated when placed immediately after extraction of teeth presenting endodontic and periodontal lesions.

It is crucial however that the appropriate clinical procedures are performed before the implant surgical procedure such as meticulous cleaning, socket curettage/debridement, and chlorhexidine 0.12% rinse among others.

Some type of augmentation might also be necessary for a successful outcome.

Speak with your doctor to determine if you are an ideal candidate for extraction and immediate implant placement.
